As Farmworker Awareness Week comes to an end, we reflect on the powerful conversations, advocacy efforts, and community actions that took place. We began the week with the official launch in San Mateo County on Monday, hosted by Supervisor Ray Mueller in Redwood City, bringing together leaders and advocates to recognize the contributions of farmworkers and highlight the urgent need for policy change. On Wednesday, we gathered for a special screening of CAMPESINOS: America’s Unsung Heroes, presented by Silicon Valley Latino and hosted at the College of San Mateo Coastside, sparking important dialogue on the resilience and struggles of farmworkers. We closed the week with EL PODER DEL PUEBLO on Friday, a vibrant celebration hosted by ALAS, honoring the strength and perseverance of farmworker communities. Through Harvesting Justice, we engaged students, community members, and legislators to uplift farmworker voices and demand change.
A huge thank you to the farmworker community for their resilience and hard work, as well as the event volunteers and organizers who made this possible. We deeply appreciate the community members and students who showed up in solidarity, the partner organizations advocating for justice every day, the speakers and panelists who shared their insights and experiences, and the educators and institutions that helped foster dialogue and learning. Your dedication and support made this week a success, and together, we will continue pushing for dignity, rights, and justice for farmworkers. The fight doesn’t end here, so let’s keep advocating for the people who sustain us every day!
