Harvesting Hope

This summer, I had the privilege of leading a group of Santa Clara University students through the Ignatian Center’s Harvesting Hope immersion in Half Moon Bay. What began as an opportunity to learn more about the realities of farmworker communities became a deeply meaningful experience of listening, relationship-building, and accompaniment.

Throughout the week, we were welcomed with incredible generosity by a community that opened its doors, shared its stories, and invited us into its daily life. We came to learn and listen, and we left with a deeper understanding of the strength, resilience, and joy that define this community.

A heartfelt thank you to ALAS for creating such a transformative experience and for allowing us to witness firsthand the power of community, advocacy, and hope. The conversations, laughter, and moments of reflection we shared will continue to remain with us, and I am especially grateful for the way ALAS welcomed us into their familia.

It was an honor to lead such an engaged and thoughtful group of Santa Clara students through this journey. I learned just as much from them as I did from the community members who shared their wisdom and experiences with us.

I am grateful to every person who gave their time, hospitality, and perspective to make this immersion possible. Thank you for reminding us that solidarity begins with listening, learning, and walking alongside one another. 💚🌱
